My home town is surrounded by beautiful countryside. Hills, meadows and trails abound and I’ve decided to explore them all in a series of weekend walks.
This weekend I took on two walks of around 3 and 4 miles each. The first one on Saturday was around the water-meadows to the south of the City, alongside the Rive Nadder. On Sunday I walked over part of Laverstock Down to Cockey Down overlooking the city.
Salisbury City Council have published a free walking map with walks in different areas mostly starting in the centre of town. I picked one up before heading for my walk on Saturday.
I headed along the River Nadder and across the water meadows.
Sunday was more on more of a whim. A few minutes down the road from my flat is a community farm that owns and farms quite a bit of the land around Laverstock village. Laverstock Down is a hilly area that offers beautiful views of the city.
This walk was my favourite. I love going up hills and, despite the cloud cover, it was lovely enough to stay awhile and read a book.
